Listening Pleasure

Listening Pleasure

The human ear really is a marvel of biology, while it may not be the most advanced in the animal kingdom, or the most sensitive, it is still a rather intricate organ.

Without getting too technical, sound and sound quality rely entirely on a fluctuation in air pressure, these fluctuations are measured in cycles per second, called (Hertz).

Typically, humans hear best when they are in their early teens, having the ability to hear the full audible human frequency spectrum, from 20Hz to 20 000Hz. There are ways to test your hearing for free online, however this requires you to have high quality speakers or headphones.

My speakers have a frequency response range between 35Hz and 30kHz and my headphones respond between 10Hz and 39 800Hz. A lot of the response range in these two ranges fall outside of the audible human frequency spectrum, and this might bring the question What's the point

There is a feeling the high frequencies bring to the hearer, try it for yourself, you can use regular earphones and the equalizer on iTunes. Play a song, which you purchased or imported off a CD and start steadily bringing down the high frequency bands.

The additional range may not seem necessary until you experience it for yourself.

A more rewarding way to experience the difference is to visit The Listening Room, suppliers of high end audio equipment, shop 8 Equinox, 12 Millenium Boulevard, Umhlanga. Call them on 031 - 584 7194.
