The traffic came to a complete standstill and many businesses chose to stay away from work due to fear that the march would turn violent. However the anti-racism march was a peaceful demonstration to raise the awareness of the obvious racism in our community sparked by the irresponsible and idiotic comments of an estate agent in Scotsbourgh.
Speaking to some of the peaceful protestors, the message was unanimous, this march should be represented by all races, speaking to Thembi from Groutville, she told The Bugle that she was happy to stand against racism, "This is a great way we can unite as a country, leave aside politics."
Thembi continued, "Let's fight injustices in our country together, peacefully, we the youth must lay a solid foundation for the future of South Africa for our future generation."
Wendy, who was not participating in the march but came to observe from the side line, was not happy with the ANC branding attributed to the march, "Don't get me wrong," said Wendy, "This is an amazing initiative, but I believe that everyone should have been included in this march."
"Why make it just about the ANC? Racism effects all of us regardless of our skin colour. We can all stand together and all march together. We should have a South African march and Fun Day where everyone gets together to celebrate our different cultures, which make us this beautiful and unique nation!"
