Partners for Possibility
Louise van Rhyn is one woman who has realised the serious challenges the South African education system faces today. Her idea to provide mentors for the Principals is gaining ground and achieving tangible and positive results.
Louise is the director and founder of Partners for Possibility (PfP), and she became the first Business Leader to partner with a Principal, in an effort to improve the school's education outcomes. This is what PfP does, partnering mentors with school Principals.
The Partners for Possibility initiative speaks to the idea of enhancing the quality of education, improving the school environment and encouraging engagement between parents and teachers. The aim is to create meaningful and attainable goals that would provide an upward spiral of real change in our society.
Louise believes that simply by placing the school at the centre of the community, a radical transformation can be achieved in the education sector.
Terry Dearling is a professional coach and business consultant, she heads the North Coast chapter for PfP and has a number of success stories about local schools that have started on a new path. Samantha Joost, decided to become a business partner with PfP after seeing the benefits first hand at Sizani Primary School where she assists with their Sizani Star reading programme.
"Partners for Possibility is a NGO working hand in hand with rural schools to uplift the schools and their communities." Samantha told The Bugle, "I am the business partner who has been paired with Zilingisele Primary School's principal, Mrs Shabalala. Together we will try to sort out issues the school is having, in all aspects of the school life, and the surrounding community."
Samantha was able to organise the Library Edutainer from the Zoe Carss Education Trust & The Bright Kids Foundation. "It is truly a wonderful library space and all we need are the books." Samantha said, "We need 1400 books to have a viable library. All extra books will be used to assist other PfP projects in the community." Samantha is on an intensive book drive to fill her Library Edutainer with books for the pupils of Zilingisele Primary in rural Cranbrook, Groutville.
Partners for Possibility is a creative solution to South Africa's education crisis - it is a co-action, co-learning partnership between School Principals and Business Leaders, enabling social cohesion through partnerships, and empowering Principals to become leaders of change in their schools and communities.
