Don't miss out on Selborne Golf Estate's exciting golf days

Don't miss out on Selborne Golf Estate's exciting golf days

Date: 2016-05-20
The cooler weather has arrived, bringing with it superb golfing conditions and Selborne Golf Estate has a number of fantastic events lined up for the months of May and June.

Earlier this year, Selborne unveiled its unique initiative, which has proved extremely popular with golfers seeking a challenging yet exciting round of golf. The 18-hole course has been configured within the current setup, into a Par 3 course with the first participants testing out the facilities on Friday 1 April.

"The first event was a great success," said Trevor Wilkes, Selborne's celebrity golf professional.

"We were only able to hold a field of 48 for the launch and this was quickly booked out. The second event, on 29 April, with a field of 60, also went off with a bang. We are thrilled with the positive feedback and this has become a regular monthly fixture on the golfing calendar."

The next Par 3 challenge will be held on Friday, 27 May and, for the first time, there will be an incredible R100000 prize for a hole-in-one. Of the prize money, R50000 will go to the golfer with the remainder going to a charity of Selborne's choice.

Selborne has set dates for the Par 3 challenges throughout the year with Fridays allowing for a field of 72 players, while Sunday events will host two fields, one in the morning from 7.40am to 9.16am and the second in the afternoon from 12.04pm to 1.32pm. The Sunday events will be held as two separate competitions, hosting a total of 104 players.

This is the only Par 3 course on the South Coast, giving golfers a really unique playing experience, which takes under three hours to complete. All players are required to use golf carts to ensure a swift turn-around time with no course hold-ups.

Selborne will continue to host its popular Monthly Mania competitions with some fantastic prizes up for grabs. The competitions - hosted on Saturday, 28 May and Saturday, 18 June - will be an Individual Stableford format in A, B & C divisions.

"Although this is generally the time of year when everything starts to get dry and go brown, Selborne has retained its lush, green look and the course is in magnificent condition with superb fairways," said John Ridl, golf director of Selborne Golf Club. "The greens are better than ever and, even though the winter cold snaps have begun, the course condition continues to improve, thanks to the tireless work by our Greenkeeper, Hein Labuschagne, and his staff. We really encourage everyone to come take advantage of these magnificent facilities."
