Come Browse and Find Treasures

It is always such a pleasure connecting with KZN's own social treasure, Sandy Day, who shows no sign of slowing down as she prepares for another Treasures and Collectables Antique Fair, which will take place on Sunday, October the 6th at La Lucia Mall.

Durban designer Sandy Day and her craftsman husband, Buddy, never dreamt that a few fund-raising tables of antiques outside St Mary's church in 2003 would mushroom into a successful antiques fair 16 years later, housing some of the province's top traders of antiques and collectibles.

"We have a special treat for collectors next month," Sandy told The Bugle, "Royal memorabilia will be on display, including a rare Kingsware Elizabeth 1st Royal Doulton jug circa 1897, as well as a rare silver pocket comb, which belonged to Princess Margaret."

A commemorative chocolate box that was given as a gift to the South African soldiers from Queen Victoria in 1900 will be one of the items for sale, as well as a brass gift tin that was given to the British Colonial and Indian Armed Forces by the teenage daughter of King George V and Queen Mary in 1914. Also on sale will be the highly prized Hummel Figures, originally designed by Sister Maria Inchente Hummel from West Germany.

The Fair can only be described as a joyous rediscovery of exquisite objects that belonged to a glorious bygone era. Tables display an eclectic mix of vintage and retro - from jewellery, rings with precious stones to vintage cufflinks, antique crockery, Royal Doulton and bone-handle cutlery, objects d'art, African artefacts, vintage woodworking tools, dolls, christening robes and much more. Traders are encouraged to research information about pieces and buyers love nothing more than to hear an interesting tale about their purchase. The network of experts are happy to explain the quirky, the collectible and the valuable.

The Antiques and Collectables Fair is held bi-monthly at La Lucia Mall. Traders are located on the lower level and have a variety of interesting antiques, collectables and treasures on display and for sale. For more information contact Sandy Day on 082 705 4882 or Centre Management Office on 031 562 8420.

Don't miss the Antiques and Collectables Fair at La Lucia Mall on 6 October from 9am to 5pm.
