Dinner / Auction to support Wildlife, Conservation and Communities' Trust
SATIB Conservation Trust - a project of SATIB Insurance Brokers - has become a key player in a myriad innovative conservation initiatives in South Africa and beyond. Among the projects currently being rolled which will benefit from the fundraiser are: Lion Management Forum of South Africa Hwange Lion Research Project conducted through Oxford University; Elephants Alive, a San Parks Research Project; Elephants for Africa in Botswana conducted through Bristol University; Wild Dogs Research in Umfolozi and Hluhluwe; Zululand Wildlife Reserve conducted in collaboration with Endangered Wildlife Trust
"We are proud of our business model which allows us to invest 100% of our donor funding into the nominated research project," says Brian Courtenay, SATIB Trust Chairman and past Chairman of SATIB Insurance Brokers.
An elegant gala dinner will be held as an awareness-creation event and to generate necessary funds for SATIB Conservation Trust projects, at Mount Edgecombe Country Club on 12 August. The exclusive dinner will include wines kindly sponsored by Stellenrust Wines.
Guest speaker will be Dr Markus Hofmeyr - General Manager for Veterinary Wildlife Services for South African National Parks. As head vet for South Africa's National Parks, Dr Hofmeyr's job sees him planning the logistics for some of Southern Africa's biggest conservation projects. Hofmeyr has a background in exotic animal medicine at Onderstepoort, he has done volunteer work with Canadian Wildlife and was part of the team that established Madikwe Game Reserve and re-introduced the endangered African Wild Dog into the reserve. He has a tremendous amount of ecological, veterinary, and management experience in wildlife trans locations and has been part of the development team of a large game reserve. Hofmeyer made headline news a few years ago when he narrowly escaped death when a darted hippopotamus unexpectedly charged at him.
A highlight of the evening will be the auction of some covetable prizes including two conservation safaris for two people to participate in collaring a research lion (subject to terms and conditions), local weekend getaways, and international paintings and prints.
There will also be an exhibition of conservation-themed artwork, posters and photographs on display.
