F1 - Fernando Allonso

F1 - Fernando Allonso

Date: 2012-07-25
Fernando Allonso drew from his two world championships on Sunday to hold off an attack first from Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and then Jenson Button as he steered his Ferrari across the line to take first place at Hockenheim in Germany.

Fernando showed his intentions this weekend raising the bar for the challenge for Driver's Championship 2012.

Michael Schumacher did very well to earn a good start but his Mercedes simply was not good enough and he was driven back into seventh position after challenging World Champion and fellow countryman Sebastian Vettel for second place. Jenson Button took second off Vettel, only to have it given back after the race stewards penalised Vettel for the way he passed Button after his tyres faded.

Lotus continue to attack with third place going to Kimi Raikkonen thanks to Vettel's penalty. The surprise came from Sauber with the team taking fourth and sixth position. Michael Schumacher managed seventh place on the day showing that he still has it in him.

The race standings show Red Bull to be in the lead for the manufacturer's title with 230 points, Ferrari closing in with 177 and McLaren-Mercedes hold third with 160.

In the driver's standing Fernando Alonso the Spaniard leads with 154 points triled by Mark Webber on 120 and Sebastian Vettel with 110. Not the way I would have said it was going to go at the beginning of this exciting season.

The next race is scheduled for the weekend of the 27th to the 29th in Hungary at around 2pm on the Sunday.
