Community Unites for Keith's benefit concert

Community Unites for Keith's benefit concert

Date: 2015-09-04
On Sunday evening, 30 August, Durban's best and finest musicians gathered at Zacks, Wilson's Wharf, for a Benefit Concert to raise funds for fellow musician, well known and highly respected flautist, Keith Bodsworth, from Durban North.

Keith is fighting cancer and, being both a musician and self-employed, it has been a very challenging time for him as he has been hospitalised for treatment and is unable to work.

Very kind sponsors donated some wonderful items to be auction and raffle, these included: Pedro and Mandy Carlo - 3 double tickets to the 2015 White Mountain Festival, valued at over R3000; SA Breweries - 4 cases of Black Label; Zacks - 4 x R250 Zacks meal vouchers and 2 snack hampers; Regal Meats - R250 voucher; Dirk's Butchery, Davenport - 2 x R100 vouchers; The Great Unsigned Musos Club; Butcher Boys, Florida Rd; The Bedroom; as well as original paintings by Terryll Eloff, 200 "Bodsy" Button Badges from Tony Miller Promotions, a bottle of J&B Whiskey from Bridget and Carl Muller; The Bedroom, Hillcrest - 2 vouchers for R1000 each, and a pamper hamper; BUCO - voucher for R1000; L'Edicola - R500 hamper voucher; The Hair Bar (Maria) - R650 voucher; Hair on Eleventh (Mandy) - R300 voucher; Chantel and Rob del Rimpel - 2 leather cushions; CDs from some of the participating musicians, and so much more, including a generous anonymous donor who gave R10000.

The Concert was organised by Durban's own Living Legend, Steve Fataar, a long-time friend of Keith's, with a great deal of assistance from Diana du Plooy and our "auctioneer", Inger Nilsen - along with countless others who helped in one way or another. Sound was by Dane Stops, a musician and artist himself, and music from Steve Fataar, Aury Livingstone & Dane Stops; Ant Cawthorne-Blazeby & Nick Pitman; Allan Mardon, Mervin Gershanov, Stefnie Perlman, Gary Nixon, Rene Tshiakanye, Nathan Isaacs, Tiffany Sheppard, Axel Batsch, Jamie Woolgar & Ron Dove, John Skuy, Ian van Tonder, Richard Ellis, Graham Ellis, Dicky Roberts, Colin Abbood, Tony Fisher, Lance Goldman, Vlado Sipcic and more

A second Benefit Concert for Keith, organised by his fellow musician and friend, Lance Goldman, will be taking place at Crusaders Sports Club in Durban North, on Saturday 5 September, from 2pm. All welcome!

Some of the donated prizes listed above were not auctioned on Sunday, but were kept back for auction at the Crusaders event - including a double ticket to the White Mountain Festival!

The line-up for Saturday includes the East Coast Basement Blues Band, Paul Arthur and his band, Lance Goldman, Paul Basel, and Allan Mardon. A Facebook event will keep everyone up to date, but if there are any enquiries or donations, etc, please contact Diana du Plooy 082 709 0028 or Lance Goldman 082 814 3709.
