Balancing it all - Holly's journey to success

Balancing it all - Holly's journey to success

Date: 2015-11-27
Too may of us lead lives that barely scratch the surface of all our dreams, desires, our hopes and ambitions. This is far from this young artist's reality. At the young age of 19, Holly is a KwaZulu Natal based musical powerhouse. This Durban teen is already an experienced singer- songwriter, live performer, as well as studio session regular with a penchant for soulful, deep house and dance music. Culture is of the utmost importance to her - she takes care to acknowledge her roots and the country she lives in, as a massive part of the force behind the sound she has crafted for herself.

Holly was misdiagnosed with Type 2 diabetes when she was 11. After months of health struggles, she was finally diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes a year later. The number of people diagnosed and living with diabetes has increased exponentially over the years - slowly becoming a global epidemic. Type 1 diabetes has no definite cause and is far less common than Type 2 diabetes, which affects roughly 90% of diabetics.

Irrespective of her health, Holly turned her attentions to music. She began to write more and share her music with family and close friends. It was in this supportive environment Holly recorded her first piece - a song of her deep gratitude to former President Nelson Mandela and his great works. SonyATV Publishing heard her music and sealed her place in history; Holly being the youngest artist Sony has ever signed.

With much inspiration and encouragement from the strong women who surround her, Holly has continued to grow from strength to strength. She has assisted Non-Profit organisations, worked closely with Durban designer Carol Clark, educated young female teens about the power of education, and met with some of the top dogs in the music industry.

Holly has managed to balance her career, health, and education: in every sphere excelling exceptionally. She matriculated with 8 distinctions whilst recording her debut album "Vanilla House" which was released in 2014. In the years of her life, she has risen above circumstances to become the musical powerhouse she is. She has crossed cultural boundaries in becoming a house artist and the best part is she isn't close to being done yet!

Where most people will be winding down for the festive season - things will be picking up for the young artist. She will be performing in and around Durban from Pietermaritzburg to Berea. You can catch her at Mbuso's Place in Pietermaritzburg this Saturday 28th November from 21h00. You can keep in track with her progress on her social media platforms.
