Dolphin Coast Chess Club Tournament

Dolphin Coast Chess Club Tournament

Date: 2016-04-08
The Dolphin Coast Chess Club is an initiative to encouragechess players (beginners to masters) to participate competitively in the iLembe District. The Dolphin Coast Chess Club runs as a club to ensure minimum expenses to the members. An annual membership fee ensures that the players receive three rated tournaments per year and that the club is able to accumulate chess equipment.

Their vision is to create a respected club of high calibre chess players that are passionate for the game and to encourage and develop new players of all ages.

The Dolphin Coast Chess Club's local chess coach, Siphamandla Nkosi, a qualified chess arbiter (first in the Ilembe district), was selected to arbiter at the South African Junior Chess Championships (SAJCC) held in Cape Town earlier this year. Nkosi, known to his players as Coach Spa, has been involved in chess for13years and has been coaching the Umhlali Preparatory chess players and all Senior Primary pupils for the past10years. His qualification ensures that our local tournaments can qualify as rated tournaments. This is a huge advantage for our local players as it offers them the opportunity to play skilled players and challenges them to improve the level of their gam

Most of the members have represented their province at the South African Junior Chess Championship (SAJCC) and placed within the top 3 for Top Schools.

The club will be hosting their first rated tournament for the year, this Saturday 9 April 2016 at Umhlali Preparatory School, registration starts from 7am. Tournament consists of 3 sections; Junior Primary, Senior Primary and High School. Loads of prizes to be won.
