Travel Agents From India Flock To Durban

Date: 2013-02-28
The city of Durban welcomed TAFI delegates with its typical warm hospitality. Tours and exhibitions were set up for the delegates to show them the city and the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

Durban, which has the highest number of people of Indian origin outside India, is surprisingly left out of the itinerary of most leisure travellers to South Africa, who go to Johannesburg, Cape Town and the Garden Route. It is part of a strategy to attract the Indian leisure and MICE market that Durban Tourism participated in the road show. "We are focusing on the Asia market now, primarily India and China." said Thulani Zungu manager - regional marketing, Durban Tourism.

The convention was held at the ICC in Durban and the delegates were treated to a gala dinner, which was attended by top notch local, national and international officials including MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Mr. Michael Mabuyakhulu, Tourism KwaZulu Natal Board Chairperson Mr. Sadha Naidoo, Minister of Tourism and Culture of Seychelles Mr. Alain St.Ange, Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs of Swaziland Hon. Mduduzi Small Joe D. Dlamini and CEO of Tsi Yatra Mr. Praveen Chugh.

Entertainment was the highlight of the evening presented by Nateshwar Dance Academy and the Afro Tenors. The TAFI convention was an excellent opportunity to showcase the attractions of Durban and KwaZulu-Natal province to the Indian travel trade.
