Want to See the Future?

Want to See the Future?

On Thursday the 21st of February, at Sony's 'See the Future', Sony showed off the next generation of PlayStation, also known as the PlayStation 4.

This announcement brought excitement to gamers all around the world as it has been nearly 7 years since the Playstation 3's release. A long wait for a device that has been estimated to have sold more than 77 million consoles since January 2013.

Being shown off with a new controller design, which has new features including a touchpad, a headphone jack and what I can assume is a more curvy shape.

When the hardware specifications provided by Sony are examined one can see exactly how immense the changes are. The Playstation 4 console will ship with predominantly PC hardware for the first time since its inception and this will include:

  • 8 Core Procssor
  • 1.82 TFLOPS GPU
  • 8GB of GDDR5 RAM
  • USB 3.0

For those who don't know the aforementioned '1.82 TFLOPS' means, that is the Graphics Processing Unit, capable of processing up to 2 trillion operations per second.

These hardware upgrades will allow the Playstation 4 to run almost seamlessly, no waiting for games to load, no waiting ages for booting up. Sony even stated that the user would be able to play a game whilst downloading it, allowing those with ultra-high speed Internet connections to feasibly play any game on the Playstation Online store without waiting.

The world has evolved so much in such a small period of time, making this truly an exciting time to be living in.
