Comfort With Dignity For Girls Project

Comfort With Dignity For Girls Project

Date: 2017-08-17

The SAWF, a non-profit Women's Empowerment Organisation started in 1997. Each year as their social responsibility initiative they adopt a deserving establishment or project and host an event to help raise funds. Their charity drive this year is in favour of the Comfort With Dignity For Girls Project.

They are celebrating their 20th anniversary and a portion of the proceeds raised will go to Comfort With Dignity For Girls Project.

There are approximately 7 million school going girls between the ages of 10-18, in South Africa. Research shows that 25% of these girls do not go to school for one week a month due to menstruating. The reason is unaffordability, as they have no means to afford sanitary towels. Money that is available to the family is used on food.

Sue Barnes has created a product that is both sustainable and beneficial to these girls and can be used for 5 years. This would ensure comfort and dignity to these girls. It will allow them to attend school and participate in sporting activities. Each pack costs R150.00 and will be used by the school going girl for about 5 years. Sponsorship of a school going girl for 5 years for R150.00 = R30.00 a year = R2.50 a month.

In alignment with the goal of restoring dignity and empowering young girls through basic healthcare, SAWF will impact on both social and environmental issues. The SAWF is hosting a Fundraiser on 2nd September 2017 at the Elangeni Hotel. Their event is themed Arabian Night, with guests dressing as their favourite character from that country. The money will be used to raise funds for the Comfort With Dignity For Girls Project.
