Designing Their Future

Designing Their Future

Date: 2015-12-04
The Atrium Berea previously known as Overport City, hosted a few first and third year students from the Centre for Fine Art, Animation and Design on Friday, 27 November 2015 allowing these budding creatives to showcase their talent to shoppers.

The shopping Centre partnered with the well-known institute located on Problem Mkhize Road (Cowey Road), which is headed by renowned artist Dr. Nanda Soobben to host an art competition in aim of finding local talent and cultivating it. This follows the recent #FeesMustFall campaign, an initiative to offer a platform for those interested in showcasing their talent in the hope of winning a 3 year bursary valued at R135, 000 towards a National Diploma in Integrated Fine Art, Animation and Graphic Design to study at CFAD.

The competition also allows our youth to tap into their creative side to conceptualise a Christmas themed piece of artwork communicating the importance of going green. This can be done using a medium of their choice i.e. through the use of household recyclable items, a pencil to sketch or paintbrush to paint. Submissions can be life size and all material used will be for the cost of the artist (e.g. a dress put together using paper, displayed on a mannequin), however sketches or painting are limited to size A3.

"We're aware of our social responsibilities towards our communities and have identified this project to allow us to give back," says Raveshin Veerasamy, Marketing Manager of The Atrium Berea.

To enter, simply email your details (Full Name, Age, Identity Number, Grade, School and Contact Number) to raveshin@mallspacemanagement.co.za along with mention of your chosen medium (structure, sketch or painting) before 16h00 on Friday, 4 December 2015 and you will receive the full terms and conditions as well as judging criteria and creative brief.

Your artwork will need to be ready and dropped off at The Atrium to be judged by Wednesday, 9 December and will thereafter be on display inside The Atrium from 15 - 23 December 2015. There is no charge for entering the competition and T's and C's do apply.
