Illuminating New Nokia

Illuminating New Nokia

Author: Damian Yoko
Date: 2013-02-13
Nokia, the former innovator and pioneer of cellphones, an old player in a new game. Once controlling a majority of the market, but the scale of Nokia's fall from the top is truly monumental. Going from a 39% market share in 2009 to 5% in 2012.

Today, Nokia is striking back with its new range of Lumina smartphones. I recently returned from Europe and I can say that these phones are being heavily advertised and the public is responding relatively positively to Nokia's new models. Sources show that Nokia has in fact shipped 14.3million Lumina devices since the phones release.

And it isn't that surprising once you take a look at the specifications that this device has. The Lumina 820 comes rigged with 4G networking capabilities, a 4.3inch AMOLED touchscreen, 8GB of on-board data storage, an 8 megapixel camera, HTML5 Browser and a gigabyte of RAM.

Nokia have opted to run this phone with Windows Phone 8 Operating System. This allows Nokia to incorporate multi-core processors, which previously weren't available to Symbian or Windows Phone 7.

Having been released last November, this phone is now being sold in South Africa, and if the rest of the world is any indicator, you can expect to be seeing the Lumina 820 more and more as time goes on.

Vodacom is willing to let you walk away with one today if you sign a 21 month contract for R390pm. This deal comes with 130 free minutes (anytime), 300MB of data, 300 SMSs and 60 free minutes (weekends) per month.
