Nation Builders shows it's support for breast cancer month!
Statistics show that out of every eight women, one is likely to develop invasive breast cancer at some point in her lifetime. This begins to sound alarm bells for many women who continue in ignorance regarding the various issues surrounding breast cancer.
In an effort to empower the women of the community, Nation Builders hosted a highly successful Breast Cancer Awareness Programme at the Ballito Library on Saturday, 28 October. Ladies dressed in pink were treated to an informative talk on the symptoms, risk factors and various guidelines on how to detect breast cancer early, by Dr Zemfundo Portia Malevo.
Dr Malevo, a practicing radiologist in Kwadukuza stressed on the importance of annual mammograms for women over forty and the need for women stay informed concerning breast cancer. Guest Speakers, Sister Paddy Chettiar and local businesswoman Jaime Ernst inspired the guests with their personal testimonies on their fight against breast cancer.
Michelle Annet Sewraj, founder of Nation Builders said the event was held to empower, educate and inform women about breast cancer. She stressed the importance of having a healthy diet, to exercise regularly and the need for all women to take personal responsibility for their health. She added that part of the vision of Nation Builders is to empower women, and in joining the support for breast cancer awareness she believes that women are going to be more readily informed going forward.
Mrs Sewraj encouraged all guests to heed the advice given by our guest speakers and to join the fight against breast cancer, by having their regular screenings and mammograms to detect any early signs cancer cells.
With the rapid increase of breast cancer cases, most people are affected by the disease either directly by developing breast cancer themselves or indirectly by supporting loved ones who have been diagnosed.
It is therefore important to support, encourage and bring hope to the lives of those affected by breast cancer, and to continue sharing information with those around you in this fight against breast cancer.
