KwaDukuza Mayor honors natural-born artist

KwaDukuza Mayor honors natural-born artist

Date: 2014-07-04
KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu lauds efforts by a Darnall Secondary School learner; Kerushnee Naicker (17), who's painting was rated number one in the KwaDukuza Inter- Schools Arts Competition, in October last year.

Her prestigious painting that was originally drawn on a small canvas has now been rescaled and imprinted into a giant wall at a landfill company, the Dolphin Coast Landfill Management (DCLM) in New Guerlderland, KwaDukuza as part of a campaign focused on renewable energy as a resource. The painting attracts attention of passers-by outside the DCLM's reception area.

Mthembu, who visited the site at the unveiling ceremony on Thursday, 19 June, nodded with approval, saying that the creative detail behind the piece is impressive.

"The details behind this piece are impressive, this work of art serves to remind members of the public about the course of utilizing renewable resources in addressing environmental challenges at large. This will now remain as our municipal memory in ensuring that the campaign on dangers of gas emissions and renewable energy resource lives.'

DCLM last year, dished out a whooping R20 000 towards the competition, which went towards the winning school.

Mthembu has commended the agency for ensuring that the priorities of government are being supported.

DCLM is a permit holder of the hazardous landfill site in KwaDukuza. It is a South African Company owned by Energipole Group, an International company involved in renewable energy and environmental activities.
