KZN to host the first Annual South African Soapie Awards

KZN to host the first Annual South African Soapie Awards

Date: 2013-04-16
Whether it is Isidingo, 7de Laan or be it Generations, whichever one comes to mind, Soapies have a lot of us glued to our television screens on a daily basis. Million of us watch our favourite soapies each day in South Africa.

Muvhango executive producer Duma ka Ndlovu said: "Soapies are watched by 20-million people in the country and employ 200 to 300 people on contracts yearly.

"Soapies are loved because people end up feeling that they know the actors and they become a part of their families. This is an amazing opportunity for actors to shine."

So it was no wonder that the Royalty Soapie Awards launch proved to be such a success last Thursday at Fairmont Zimbali. Founded by Winnie Modise, the South African actress and businesswoman who has been in the industry for over a decade.

The launch was truly was a star-studded affair and was attended by gurus of the Soapie industry, with the likes of Isidingo actress Kgomotso Christopher and Muvhango executive producer Duma ka Ndlovu showing face.

"I call them the Royalty Soapie Awards because actors are treated like kings and queens by ordinary people," founder of the awards Winnie Modise, who is a soapie star herself on Generations, said. Watch out for the first ever awards which will take place on November 2 at Durban's ICC.
