Ithala Special Award Winner Brings Cheer To Needy Children
The Maziya's are owners of Verigreen (Pty) Ltd, a thriving plastic manufacturing company which is successfully operating for over 14 years in Pinetown, west of Durban.
The couple are the proud recipients of the "Spirit of Entrepreneurship Award", a special category award in the Business Achiever Awards hosted by Ithala Development Finance Corporation.
The Awards recognise clients' business success and acknowledges their contribution towards developing KwaZulu-Natal as an entrepreneurial province.
As part of the prize, their business received R50 000 plus an additional R5000 to contribute towards a charity of their choice.
The Maziya's had their minds set on Lungisani Indlela as the beneficiary in line with their company's vision to uplift underdeveloped communities.
In an effort to combat poverty, Lungisani Indlela's objective is to transform the lives of people in the Amaoti community by ensuring that crèches and schools are transformed to a standard of excellence; every orphan is cared for; entrepreneurial businesses are established and sports, dance, drama, arts and crafts activities are introduced.
"Lungisani Indlela and Verigreen share a common vision to uplift people in disadvantaged communities," said Thina.
"Lungisani Indlela is involved in numerous community projects that are enriching, including community feeding initiatives and ensuring children are put through school.
"Over and above the monetary donation, we also sponsored a car to enable them to efficiently deliver food parcels to the community and successfully carry out their day-to-day activities.
"I convey my gratitude to Ithala for recognising our "Supa Mama" programme which enables me to impact people's lives through job creation."
Theo Brown, general manager at Lungisani Indlela, expressed his thanks to Verigreen for their continued support.
"We share a cordial relationship with Thina and are most grateful to once again be selected as a beneficiary," he said.
"As part of the many community projects in which we are involved, there is a 'Back to School' programme which currently ensures 490 children attend school. We also deliver food parcels to families in need.
"With so many children lacking the good guidance of parents, we decided to establish a 'safe house'.
"Hence, Lungisani Indlela, which currently is home to 11 children, is a place of safety for children aged between five and 18.
"We also run an after care centre within our office premises."
