Ashton International - School Of Excellence

Ashton International - School Of Excellence

Date: 2013-09-13
When it comes to choosing a school, what is the criteria -is it academic, cultural activities or sport? At Ashton we continually strive to define our school as an institution of choice - from there our motto 'The Best of Both Worlds' . Education is first and foremost offering academic excellence where students are exposed to a cross-curriculum of IEB (Independent Examination Board) and CIE (Cambridge International Examination). In the Junior College we dovetail the Cambridge and IEB syllabi from Grade 3, and our students write the Cambridge Primary checkpoint examinations in Mathematics, Science and English. These examinations are marked in the UK, giving the students a 'head-start' as they prepare to enter into the Senior College, where at the end of Form 1 (Grade 8) they have the choice of selecting either the CIE or the IEB. We pride ourselves in producing students who not only qualify for university entrance but get through university.

Going hand in hand with academics, the newly formed Sport Performance and Leadership Academy, will fine tune the main sporting codes of the school as we strive towards excellence in sport. Dr André Barnard has been appointed Director of the Academy and this will include Rugby, Swimming, Hockey, Cricket and Netball. "This gives us the platform to bring on board and form associations with Seals (swimming) and Andrew Shedlock (cricket). Dr Barnard's expertise lies in rugby, having played Currie Cup and Super Rugby for the Transvaal Lions and Sharks between 1992 and 1996, and then in the European Cup and Premiership, and this will impact significantly on building on our rugby teams," said Mr Joe Erasmus, Executive Head.

Ashton is a co-educational English College with traditional values celebrating a Christian ethos, catering for students from Grade 000 - Gr 12.
