Through My Eyes - What a week!

Through My Eyes - What a week!

I woke up this morning and I was still running, don't ask?

It has been a recurring dream from my childhood. In forty-three years I still have not worked out whether I am running towards something or away from something. But in the end it does not really matter, what remains, long after I wake up, is this feeling of exhaustion and disorientation.

I really think it's time for a spring clean- I did one the other day in my wardrobe, now I think it's time to do one in my head.

Clearing the cobwebs from our minds is an important part of staying sane. We are all guilty of hanging on to all kinds of pained memories and unwanted mental baggage, which frankly does not serve us but drags us down and makes us doubt ourselves.

Just as too much alcohol and junk food can make our body lethargic, emotional baggage - in the form of negative thoughts, mental blocks and limiting self-beliefs - can clog up your mind. If like me you are finding it hard to let go of certain negative emotions, which are making you unhappy, then this is for you.

Spring is the perfect season to clear your mind of clutter. Get rid of those dusty to-do lists, forgotten goals and emotional baggage. Kick them all to the curb and begin anew. It is a time of birth, growth and detox. What better time to clear out and freshen up emotional, mental and physical baggage?

Stress comes in so many forms now days. Whether it's work, dirty laundry, a lengthy to-do list or those tight jeans from high school that we so much still want to fit in.

We continuously place undo stress on ourselves. If we were to strip away all our external environmental stresses we'd still find a pile of guilt, anxious and worrisome thoughts and behaviours. How can we stay sane in a chaotic hyper speed world of stress?

We can start by taking a few moments every day to mentally clear our minds. Unplug from technology and force yourself to watch your thoughts. Take ten deep breaths with awareness of the flow of air in and out of the lungs. Feel the air fill your lungs and then empty out completely. Decide once and for all to make friends with your mirror.

There are things that we never want to let go of, people we never want to leave behind. But keep in mind that letting go isn't the end of the world, it's the beginning of a new life.

Even though letting go is a challenging process, in the end we have to forgive and let go, even if it means releasing those dark thoughts a little bit at a time. In the end the only thing that will guarantee a successful mind spring clean is to be kind and gentle to our self.

Sleep is one of the most important stress relievers, make sure you are getting your eight hours a day and if you are nottime for spring clean!

"We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the life that is waiting for us." Joseph Campbell.
