The Salt March
The Salt March
This year, 2015, marks the eleventh anniversary of the annual Salt March, which is aimed at commemorating the struggle of Mahatma Gandhi and Nkosi Albert Luthuli for peace and equality.
Krishna Perumal Govender, as Mahatma Gandhi, and Mondli Zwane, as Albert Luthuli, pose with a handful of salt to reference the origins of the iconic Salt March ahead of the annual Durban Salt March being held next Sunday, 29 March, departing from Phoenix Settlement and finishing at the KZN Athletics Stadium in Walter Gilbert Rd - a distance of approx 18km.
The original Salt March took place from March to April 1930 in India. It was an act of civil disobedience led by Mohandas Gandhi (1869-1948) to protest British rule in India
