Mercedes One Two

Mercedes One Two

Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg made history this past weekend when they took the first two places on the podium, followed not so closely by Sebastian Vettel who filled the third position.

It has been more than 58 years since Mercedes-Benz last claimed such a result with Juan Manuel Fangio and Piero Taruffi in the Silver Arrows team.

Lewis Hamilton showed his brilliance with a stellar performance in Malaysia, having taken pole position, recorded the fastest lap time on the day and leading the race from start to finish.

Last years undisputed champions, Red Bull, had a fight on their hands to get third place. Vettel gave Rosberg a run for his money during the middle of the race only to watch the Mercedes-Benz cross the finish line over seven seconds ahead of him.

The rookie Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo must have just been getting over the fuel supply debacle that saw him stripped of his debut podium drive when disaster struck again. He would have finished fourth behind Vettel, even after the pit crew let him down with a front left wheel not being secured properly, a damaged front wing, which meant he had to stop again and take a ten second penalty pit stop for an unsafe release, and then accidents robbed him of his chance.

Even harder to swallow for the newcomer is a 10 grid penalty for the unsafe release, which will be handed down to him on the next F1 race day in Bahrain on Sunday the 6th of April.
