An African Christmas at Jesus Dome

An African Christmas at Jesus Dome

Date: 2013-12-20
As the world celebrates an African Icon, Durban Christian Centre Jesus Dome is giving a special twist to the traditional Christmas play this year with a special celebration of all things African.

No jingle bells, snow scenes or reindeers. The music, songs and colourful costumes will all reflect and celebrate Africa. Also featured among the props will be the Big Five wild animals of Africa.

The storyline is about a woman vegetable vendor who comes to the big city and how her life is transformed through various experiences.

Nathi Zungu, who last month, won the SABC Crown Gospel Award for Best Composer and last weekend, the Ingoma Award for Best Songwriter, is the music producer. Among the singers are opera star Raphael Vilakazi, who has performed for Nelson Mandela and toured Spain, and the Isicathamiya singers.

Adding to the professional quality of "An African Christmas" is Durban's leading choreographer and director Dean Bennewith. The set will be a celebration of Durban with its moving visual backdrops of the city. The production runs from 13-15 December. Friday and Saturday times are 7pm and Sunday at 6pm. Tickets are R40 each and are available at the Jesus Dome. Please contact 031 2425000 for more information.
