Nelson Mandela Day at Liv Village

Nelson Mandela Day at Liv Village

Date: 2012-07-25
Statistics reveal that over 3.5 million children in South Africa are parentless (UNICEF 2007) and more than 12,000 children are being orphaned every month. It is against this background that Lungisisa Indlela Village (LIV) has launched an initiative to help deal with this challenge and leave a legacy for future generations.

LIV has partnered with Government, Business and the Church to provide urgently needed holistic residential care, on a large scale, for the thousands of vulnerable and parentless children, with the core vision to rescue a child, restore a life, raise a leader and release a star.

To date 16 environmentally friendly homes are now completed with 15 house mothers and 58 vulnerable and orphaned children in residence. Emphasis is being placed on a level of excellence in education.

Margo Reid (ex Durban Girls College and Umhlanga College Headmistress) is leading the LIV School. The Junior and Senior Primary School are established, as well as the Crèche with the most dedicated, talented teachers guiding and instructing our children. The library is complete. In addition there is a well-equipped computer room.

80 additional homes are currently being built and will be completed early next year.

The Church on the Village is thriving and making a meaningful impact on the neighboring community in Cottonlands.

LIV Business Pty Ltd has been established to address the ongoing sustainability of the Villages, and provide skills training and employment, including future vocational training for the immediate and surrounding communities.
