Zimbali Charity Golf Day
Held In Aid Of Westbrook Retirement Village And Sables Creatures
With a slight cold nip in the air with the impending arrival of winter, the day of the Zimbali Charity Golf Day dawned. Nothing would daunt the spirits of the players as everybody prepared for the fund raising golf day.
This year Ladies and Men's Golf Captains were allowed to select the charities of their choice. They chose Westbrook Retirement Village, which is run by eThekwini Municipality to house State Pensioners who receive about R1600pm. The rental for a room is R1500 excluding water and electricity, so it does not leave much over for food or clothing. Some don't have any family caring for them, so life is tough. They survive on donations and sponsors but at least have a roof over their heads. They have no means of getting to clinics, doctors, podiatrists and hair stylists etc. Their wish was to get a vehicle to assist in this process.
Another charity chosen was Sables Creatures is a Pro-Life volunteer organisation that cares for pets in the townships surrounding our Ballito area. Treating sick animals, spaying, mass vaccinations, feeding, educating owners and mercy euthanasia are a few of the marvellous work this organisation does. The animals have no expectations and only give love in return, as they go about their days just trying to survive. Sables use the discounted services of local vets whose minimal charges often go unpaid for months at a time, until cash donations are received. Their wish was to have these accounts paid off.
R265 000 was raised on the day, the bus became a reality for Westbrook Retirement Village and the payment of the Vets Bills can be made.
