Gerard and his fleet of beauties

Date: 2018-06-01

Long time Ballito Resident, business owner, and car enthusiast, Gerard De Billot, joined the hundreds of car enthusiasts last Sunday at the Cars in the Park event, which took place in Pietermaritzburg. Cars in the Park is one of the highlight events on the Vintage Sports Car Club calendar.

Held annually during May, this extremely popular event is the largest of its kind in KZN, and is a draw card for motoring enthusiasts from all over South Africa. The first Cars in the Park event was held in February 1976.

The event is a large gathering of enthusiasts from numerous clubs and features a wide variety of makes of motorcars, trucks, tractors and simply fascinating vehicles.

Gerard who started collecting cars when he was just 22 years old displayed an impressive selection of vehicles including 1981 Ford F-150, 1979 Ford Escourt 1600 sport, 1966 Ford Mustang, 1981 Ford Cortina 3.0l, a 1967 Oldsmobile Toronado, 1974 Ford Ranchero 351, and 1972 Ford Mustang Mach1.

After crashing one of his prized cars in a racing accident, it took Gerard 20 years to save up again and start collecting. He now owns a large selection of vintage and exotic cars with the newest, most prized car added to his collection, which is still on its way from the UK and which was purchased from lead singer Jay Kay from Jamiroquai. Jay Kay bought the car from Bruce Willis who was given the car as a gift from Demi Moore. These cars have history.
