OktoberFest at the Harbour

OktoberFest at the Harbour

Date: 2017-10-19

Sailors and beer have been a historically good combination going back aeons, and this October getting in the spirit of things the Point Yacht Club will be hosting an OktoberFest on Saturday 21 October.

After the success of the Beer and Bratwurst held earlier this year, the club's legendary resident chef, Chef Markus Bänziger, will be sharing his 'Swiss-German' roots again, organising a German themed menu that includes Cervelat, Bockwurst, Eisbein, Fleischkäse and Bratwurst all served with Chef's very own Swiss style Rösti Potato or his fabulous Sauerkraut. Or if you prefer to only have a nibble, on the menu is an OktoberFest favourite, the beer pretzel.

Coinciding with the Jonsson Cup Pursuit Race, the German inspired 'folk festival' will take place at the harbour based club, spilling out onto the club's open areas allowing revellers to sit and enjoy some of the best views in Durban.

Dishing up some of Durban's finest liquid refreshments is multiple award winning, home grown talents: Robsons Real Beer Brewery and Distillery 031. Both are South Africa's pioneers of their crafts, with Robsons offering a variety of ales, a Pilsner and the mighty Hammer of Thor. Distillery 031 will be offering their renowned 031 Gin, mixing it up with a number of locally made mixers. Adding to the mix, Distillery 031 has some fantastic vodkas to Whet your appetite.

Joining the local crafters, leading wine and spirit producers, KWV South Africa Limited will add a handful of their well-crafted and extraordinary wines to the mix. With the title of The World's Most Admired Wine Brands 2016, renowned KWV will be hosting a free wine tasting offering two reds and two whites to sample offering two reds and two whites to sample, with options of purchasing bottles.

Entry is R30 per person, payable at the door. Drinks and food will be for your own account. If beer, Gin or German sausages are not your all time favourite, the Anchorage Restaurant and Charlies Bar will be operating.

Parking is available at the Point Yacht Club's parking, secure parking fee of R15.00 will apply for non-members. The festivities kick off at 2.00pm and continue past sunset.
