Date: 2020-02-21

Siza Water External Bursary Fund awarded academic bursaries to five students at a breakfast function held on Friday, 7th February 2020.

The successful students, Ms Zinzi Nyaka, Ms Kerina Naicker, Ms Thalia Nair, Mr Shivaadon Poonan and Mr Siphamandla Salulange were selected from within Siza Water's service area. Whilst congratulating the students, the Managing Director, Shyam Misra said, "This is an opportunity for the youth to not only make a success of themselves, but their communities as well as our country."

Local Ward Councillors honoured from the event and Councillor Maphumulo, representing the Ilembe District Mayor thanked Siza for their contribution to the upliftment of youth within Ilembe and encouraged the students to take advantage of the bursary so that they may prosper.

The Bursary Fund was implemented by Siza Water by earmarking funds from its Youth & Community Development Fund, for tertiary bursaries with the intention of creating an educational legacy program. The fund has sponsored bursaries in excess of R500000 over the past four years. "It is most pleasing to see our bursary fund bearing fruit and are proud to announce and congratulate our first two graduates coming through from this project, Kiara Birbal who has completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours and Akshay Durgapersadh, who completed a Bachelor of Science Streams," said Shyam. He also had to add how proud he was of Siza's Internal Bursary Fund, which sponsors employees children and which has also produced their first two graduates and congratulated Natasha Rajah who completed B.Ed (FET) Education and Bongumusa Shandu, Shipping and Logistics at Maritime.

A note of gratitude from Kiara was read out, where she stated; "You carried our education as your own, you held our hands through the most turbulent of times, you have nurtured us into professionals and you have treated us as your own - on behalf of all students of the Siza Water Bursary Fund, past present and future, we would like to say thank you."
