The Renault MÈgane GT Thriller
Renault's world-renowned design chief, Laurens van den Acker, said of the new Renault MÈgane, "Behind the Renault MÈgane's appeal, there is a substance, technology and innovations that will make life easier and more rewarding."
Well I attended the launch of the Megan GT, which was held at a motorcycle track and I remember us journalists looking at each other and wondering why they would bring us to a motorcycle racetrack to demonstrate the new hot hatch MÈgane.
The Renault MÈgane petrol-powered GT is the flagship model, and is powered by the new generation Energy TCe 205 151 kW - 1.6 litre engine. Coupled to the seven-speed dual-clutch (EDC) auto gearbox, we wanted a straight that allow us to get to 230 kilometres per hour, which the MÈgane GT is capable of doing.
However sanity prevailed and we were at the motorcycle track to demonstrate Renault's 4CONTROL chassis four-wheel steering system.
The tight corners that were right on top of each other really brought home the amazing steering ability that the Renault MÈgane possesses. I have to agree with Laurens, this was very rewarding.
More rewards come in the form of 18" alloy wheels with a 17" spare, a host of Renault MULTI-SENSE road handling features, full LED technology and paddle shift gears.
The Renault MÈgane achieved a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and comes standard with a 5-year/150 000km mechanical warranty and a 6-year anti-corrosion warranty. Also standard is a 5-year/ 90 000km service plan.
