Love this Life Yoga Festival

Love this Life Yoga Festival

Date: 2016-08-19
Explore the dynamic world of yoga with a fantastic line-up of sessions at the Love this Life Yoga Festival on 21 August 2016 at Durban Boys High School from 8am to 5:30pm.

With so many people searching for a healthy way to destress from the frenetic pace of modern-day life, the festival, now in its third year, seeks to provide just that platform.

As festival co-ordinator Cheryl Lancellas explains, yoga helps create awareness, self discipline, understanding and union with the mind, body and spirit.

"If we are living with disease, we certainly cannot afford the energy to focus on our spiritual growth. As within, so without. By beginning with our individual physical bodies, maintaining a clear connection of the said mind, body and spirit, naturally we will be caring for our natural environment," she said.

The day includes sessions with reknowned yogis, discussions as well as a light lunch.

The festival will ease off with an opening Mantra and meditation, in order for participants to set their intention and mood for the day.

Highlights will include sessions by yogis Dave Gardner and Marc Kress.

Dave Gardner will give an introduction to Budokon - a fascinating synthesis of Yoga, Martial and Living Arts, Animal Locomotion and Calisthenics.

"BDK Yoga honours its traditional roots of Hatha Yoga while bringing a completely unique Martial Arts circular influence and powerful playful animal locomotion, creating a seamless transition of movement, mind and breath. Through the process and practice of self-enquiry we cultivate the Warrior and Yogi within each and every one of us," says Gardner.

Certified Iyengar and Hatha yoga teacher Marc Kress will follow with an Iyengar class.

There will be discussions about alignment-based challenges, as well as a microcosm/macrocosm talk on how to help the environment.

There will also be an interactive drumming session and the exciting premiere screening of Beyond the Surface, a film made in India about the empowerment of the first female Indian surfers in Varkala - and many more activities.

The festival is the brain child of well-known North Coast yogi Cheryl Lancellas.

"The festival sprung from the desire to bring the yogic community into a space of unity and sharing," says Lancellas.

Lancellas is passionate about alternative health and healing and has embraced a vegetarian lifestyle since 1976. She runs a yoga studio, teacher trainer modules as well as taking yoga safaris up to Mozambique. She is also a massage therapist, Pranic healer, Reiki practitioner and a sound therapist - working with Tibetan and Himalayan bowls and Tingshas.
