Join us as we make tiny crosses

Join us as we make tiny crosses

Date: 2014-02-21
Spend a morning learning to make tiny iron crosses, crafted from nails, to be used in the Diakonia Council of Churches annual Good Friday Service, on Thursday 27 February from 9am.

Eric Naidoo, a volunteer with Diakonia, has designed a diminutive cross, symbolically made from iron nails. He will be leading the workshop, teaching volunteers how to make the crosses, which will be the take-home symbol to be used at this year's Diakonia Council of Churches annual Good Friday Service.

The workshop will take place in one of the conference rooms at the Diakonia Centre, which is Diakonia Avenue opposite the Durban Music School. Off street parking can be organised on request, and there is street parking in-front of the building.

The Diakonia Council of Churches, which for 38 years has been working for a transformed society, presents its annual ecumenical Good Friday service at dawn on Friday 18 April starting at the Durban Exhibition Centre (DEC) before processing - in dignified meditative silence - through the streets of the city, to the Durban City Hall.

Each year, the service highlights a particular aspect of national suffering and injustice. The 29th service this year will focus on Things must change and we will be reflecting on taking ownership of being part of the solution of the myriad issues that keep us in bondage in this country, such as greed, corruption and inequality. The preacher will be Graham Philpott from the church land programme.

For more information, contact Diakonia Council of Churches' offices on 031310 3500. If you can join us, please RSVP to Busi at Diakonia (reception@diakonia.org.za /031310 3500) so we can plan accordingly.
