We salute the BMW M4

We salute the BMW M4

"Its style is impetuous. Its control is impregnable, it's just ferocious. It wants' your heart" The BMW M4.

Before I bless you with the M4 lets go back a bit, the M3 is BMW's nostalgia. Since 1985 we've been mesmerized by the shere brilliance of the BMW M3. Has it always been perfect? No. But for 25 years it has struck the hearts of young boys, it was the poster we stuck on our bedroom walls and the modern day mustang for us South Africans.

Well, sadly to say, the M3 2 door coupe has had its run, we've still got the sedan but there's just something about that coupe that sets itself apart from the rest. In all fairness, I understand why, BMW have come out barking this year with their all-new M4, screaming and shouting, this beast produces 317kw of power, it sounds like hand grenades exploding out of those exhaust pipes after each ferocious gear change. I'm not surprised though; it's a typical BMW 3.0L V6 twin- turbo engine.

There aren't many cars' that touch me emotionally, but this is an ultimate enthusiast's car. It's heaps of fun (after you change your underwear the first time), it has launch control with an endless 7 speed dual clutch M-DCT transmission attached to a whopping 425 heavy Belgium horses to the rear wheels. As if the M4 wasn't enough already, BMW have made it 80kg's lighter and increased the pulling power from 400 to 550nm of torque!

"They say men never really grow up, their toys just get bigger and more expensive" Touché, the M4's M-DCT transmission has a burnout function for all you hooligans and the coupé M-DCT is a cool R1 053 592. Having a car as technologically advanced, and with as much power as the M4, getting tail-happy is inevitable. That's why the M4 includes a M-Dynamic mode, which allows the car to enter a power slide with the computer monitoring the stability control. So when you over compensate, like many of us do, then the computer will catch your slide, making you look like the next Ken Block.

This car encapsulates an aggressive domineer, with its large-bore exhaust pipes and sneering grills, as if it has its own emotion. Although it seems like I've expressed the wrath of God upon a car, it's still a BMW, it's still combined with luxury and comfort. The interior has a text-book BMW neat and tidy finish with the exception of innovative racing seats.
