Culture Club supports The Sunflower Fund

Culture Club supports The Sunflower Fund

Date: 2012-09-05
Celebrating yet another successful Culture Club Golf Day are Carlos Correia, Andrew Brockett, Greg Shartin, Craig Banfield, Garry Harris, Rob Havemann and Doug Florence with The Sunflower Fund's Stephanie Berry

Eight years ago, eight friends introduced their husbands to one another and the Culture Club was formed. Every year they organise their annual fundraising golf day and one of the members gets to nominate their chosen charity to benefit. This year, Craig and Jayne Banfield nominated The Sunflower Fund, a charity very close to their heart. Ten years ago their daughter had a successful transplant after being diagnosed with a rare life-threatening blood disorder.

On Friday, 24th August, 132 golfers played in perfect conditions at Mount Edgecombe Country Club. Through the sales of 4 balls, an auction and a raffle, R110000 was raised which will be used by The Sunflower Fund to pay for the tissue typing of potential bone marrow stem cell donors for inclusion on the South African Bone Marrow Registry. The more donors on the Registry, the more chance children and young adults diagnosed with leukaemia have of finding their 1:100 000 donor match.

A big thank you to everyone involved for 'Sharing a Little to Save a Life'. For more information on The Sunflower Fund contact 0800 12 10 82 or visit https://www.sunflowerfund.org.za
