Lucia Mthiyane who is White Star celebrity chef will be conducting a cooking class on the 15 November 2014 at the International Hotel School in Durban. Lucia is better known as the singing chef in stilettos, actress and voice over artist. She has starred in numerous TV productions which includes Rhythm City, Mzansi, Muhvango, How to steal R2 million (Movie) and Backstage. She will be in Durban doing what she does best, teaching people the various and exciting ways of preparing pap.
Born in Umlazi Kwazulu Natal, she was a school teacher, by day she would captivate her pupils' attention with History and English lessons [Shakespeare was her speciality], by night she would moonlight as a singer.
From the time she started singing in church as a child, music was her first love. When her teaching post fell through she swapped the classroom for stage and lights. In the past couple of years Lucia has consistently wowed audiences with her deep sultry voice reminiscent of divas of song like Shirley Bassey, Ernestine Anderson and the mother of Rock Tina Turner, Nina Simone and Miriam Makeba.
Lucia has sung for former President Nelson Mandela, former President Thabo Mbeki as well as the President of Indonesia on his presidential visit to South Africa recently. Lucia Mthiyane was recently appointed as one of the judges for Taste of Durban, which had chefs from different countries showing off their culinary skills.
Lucia is currently working on her Debut album and has completed a cook book that will soon be published. She has been nominated as one of the chefs to conduct demonstrations for Sipekko Rice and she is giving cooking lessons using White Star products. Lucia is a semifinalist for LG Home Chef held at the Good Food and Wine in 2012.
