Sembcorp Siza Water Launches the Bursary Fund to Celebrate their 17th Birthday!

1st of April 2016, marks Sembcorp Siza Water's 17th Birthday, as part of the celebration Sembcorp officially launched the Sembcorp Siza Water Bursary Fund. The Bursary Fund falls part of the Sembcorp Siza Water Community Development Fund, which has been going on since the company's inception.

The Bursary Fund is aimed for tertiary students residing within the Sembcorp Siza Water Concession Area. The bursary was availed for applicants wishing to attend a tertiary in 2016.

Five students have been awarded the bursary. Mthobisi Dladla studying Occupational Health and Safety at Pheonix Health & Safety; Thalia Nair (Mechanical Engineering) at WITS; Kerina Naicker (BSc Civil Engineering) at UKZN; Kiara Birbal (Physiotherapy) at UKZN and Thabiso Msweli (Information Technology) at Damelin.

The event was attended by the honourable mayor Cllr. Welcome Mdabe and Sembcorp Siza Water Concession Area ward councillors; Cllr Hubner, Cllr Ntuli, Cllr Banda and Cllr Mbonambi.

The mayor Cllr. Mdabe, Congratulated the bursary recipients and urged them to do their best in order to come back and use their scarce skills in their communities.

Shyam Misra, Managing Director of Sembcorp Siza Water said that; "the aim of the fund is to ensure we empower our Youth with skills so that they may then be able to realise their dreams through education." In addition to providing funding to the lucky recipients of the bursaries, Sembcorp also allow some or all of them to work at their offices to get a feel of the corporate environment and also gain exposure to the real world of their chosen careers.

Thalia Nair thanked Sembcorp Siza Water for the opportunity and said, "A lot of my peers want to study but do not have finances to do so, and I am happy to have been given an opportunity to have a brighter future".

Thabiso Msweli hopes to become helpful in his community .He expressed his gratitude and added, "The bursary lifted a great weight off the shoulders of my family who were no longer able to pay for my studies."
