Day of fun with the Robin Hood Foundation

Day of fun with the Robin Hood Foundation

Date: 2016-04-08
Each school term holiday, the Robin Hood Foundation host a HOPE breakfast for orphaned and vulnerable children from our surrounding disadvantaged communities, cases are sent to us by request from the Christian Social Services who work closely in the townships with these vulnerable groups.

The aim of this project we've been running for the past 4 years is to inspire HOPE in the lives of the young children, aged 3 to 17, who have suffered devastating loss in their young lives, most of them having lost parents and now being cared for by an older sibling, aunt, neighbour or their aging Gogo's, take them out of their dire circumstances for a while, let them play, feel the love from our volunteers and just be children.

"Our goal is to treat each child to a wonderful few hours of play, interaction and a meal and then be sent home with a Gogo bag filled with non-perishable foods, blanket and towel as well as most importantly, a brand new school uniform - top to toe - stationery, lunch boxes, juices bottles etc; everything they'd need to start off their new term.

"For these children, almost every day is a struggle so imagine their joy in receiving a brand new school uniform and stationery to start off their new term at school. At each project we've hosted in the past, we've seen ourselves what these uniforms mean to the children as once they receive them, all play halts, they do not want to put them down. For them, a reason to go to school, proudly dressed in their new attire.

"Thanks to CHEP and O&O cafÈ, the Robin Hood Foundation were able to bless 40 orphaned and vulnerable children with not one but TWO full, brand new school uniforms, a stationery pack, Gogo bag filled with 2 weeks supply of non-perishable foods, toiletries, towel, blanket and so much more!"Says Kim Griffith Jones, Co-ordinator of The Robin Hood Foundation, "We are so grateful to CHEP and O&O CafÈ aswell as team of volunteers for making this a day these children will not forget in a while! To see how their faces lit up, knowing that as they start their new school term tomorrow, they have all they need, was priceless!"
