Spiritual journey to Chatsworth

Spiritual journey to Chatsworth

Author: Prelisha Pillay
Date: 2013-06-27
The senior citizens of the Shree Emperumal Hindu Temple Society of MT Edgecombe embarked on an excursion recently to Chatsworth, where they visited the Shri Vishnu Temple Society as well as the Hare Krishna Temple. The Shree Vishnu Temple Society is home to the largest Hanuman Murthi (statue) in all Africa. The statue was built in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Indians arriving to South Africa. This colourful statue stands 13 meters tall and is seen as a symbol of power and strength. The senior citizens were taken aback by the remarkable atmosphere of the temple and thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

The priest of the Shri Vishnu Hindu Temple Society, Pundit Ganesh, who hails from India, blessed and thanked the senior citizens for their contribution of fruits and sweetmeats. The devotees thereafter visited the Hare Krishna Temple where they were enlightened on the various prayers and the importance of the Chariot Festival which is celebrated every year. The citizens enjoyed lunch served by the Hare Krishna Temple before making their way back home.
