Charles Thompson, one of the four Directors of Construction ID, Commercial, Industrial and Residential developers, spoke passionately about the latest record-breaking real estate development, Ocean Dune Sibaya, which sold out on day one. At the launch event that was really a celebratory function, Charles marvelled at the massive support that the development received, saying "It is clear that there is still a strong confidence in the future of Durban and the KZN region," said Charles, adding "we had 4000 people visit the site in the first month of opening to the public."
Speaking with The Bugle, Charles confirmed that the majority of buyers in this, the first development of the much anticipated Tongaat Hulett Developments' SIbaya Node, were from Durban with only around ten buyers being from up country. "We had families retirees and first time buyers showing such positive interest, and many of our buyer's in Ocean Dune are young first time buyers, it pleases me that they will be able to realise the investment potential of their purchase through property ownership." Charles added.
Ocean Dune Sibaya represents a one billion Rand development, which carries a land cost of around a hundred and fifty million Rand. It is the first development in Node 1 of the five nodes in the developmental plan for Sibaya. The investor confidence and coinciding enthusiasm from the market points to the amazing location that Ocean Dune Sibaya, Durban and even KZN has going for them.
"We were very privileged for Construction ID to be chosen to work with THD in this development, their reputation for successful land development is unprecedented in South Africa." Charles went on to explain how the responsible manner of the developments planning gave extra value to the investor or property buyer, "We didn't cut corners and put extra profitability back into the development to improve the overall product," said Charles.
Tongaat Huletts's brochure offered the commitment saying, "The approach seeks to move beyond merely a mutual respect between these urban and natural realms, toward actively encouraging a real integration of urban development and the natural environment, whereby each element reinforces each other, providing for an entirely new urban identity and way of life for future residents and visitors."
With two world-class harbours and the recent development of King Shaka International airport and iDube Tradeport Aerotropolis growth node, things just keep looking up for the region.
Besides magnificent property developments that offer amazing growth potential to investors, Durban also offers the fabulous tourism market with the city of Durban winning international awards from institutions like MasterCard and the New York Times.
Our climate supports the friendly business, sport and pleasure lifestyle mix that is being stimulated by the sizeable human resources base we enjoy in this province. We live, work, play and learn with enthusiasm in this region.
Durban and KZN are experiencing healthy growth rates, the North Coast region contributing significantly to healthy growth percentages as we begin to recognise that the time to realise our potential is now and aim at 5% plus growth.
Durban and KZN can boast having the highest level of industrialisation in the country, contributing around 17 per cent of the entire country's GDP, with over 65 per cent of KZN's GDP being produced in Durban.
The urban improvement and re-investment in the Durban CBD is wonderful to behold.
