Mother's Day Pampering and Pep Talk

Mother's Day Pampering and Pep Talk

Date: 2016-05-13
About 70 mothers were treated to a special Mother's Day celebration at the Shakaskraal Old Age Centre on Wednesday, 4th of May 2016. Cllr. Nel Sewraj of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) also graced the function with his presence and presented the mothers with chocolates as a token of appreciation for upholding family values. Also present was Pastor Gerald Chetty, chairman of the Centre and Dr Nivasha Naidoo, local medical practitioner and keen supporter of the Centre. The function culminated with all the mothers being treated to a lovely Mother's Day lunch, which was prepared on site

Guest speaker at the Mother's Day event was Annet Michelle Sewraj, a psychology and English graduate and founder of Nation Builders, a non-profit organisation that focuses on the empowerment and development of women and children. Sewraj is also the CEO of Battle Axe, a people development and training company and the associate pastor of Groundbreakers, a church based in Ballito.

Annet Sewraj, a mother herself, spoke about the vital role that mothers play in society, especially in modern society where the importance of family life is being eroded and where morals and values are degenerating. She highlighted the necessity for mothers to develop and build themselves to function at their optimum within the family. "Mothers are the primary care-givers in the home and the ones who bond and cement the family unit strongly together," she said.

The mothers attending the event were encouraged and inspired by Annet Sewraj's talk. Mr Sam Moodley, a member of the Centre's management committee and master of ceremonies at the function, thanked Sewraj for her contribution towards community development. She was invited back to conduct a Parenting Workshop at the centre in the near future.

Annet Sewraj has been speaking and conducting workshops at various schools, organisations and associations. She can be contacted through at Nation Builders on 032 - 946-3331 or nationbuildersSA@gmail.com.
