Twelve years ago Wim Sak arrived in Durban on business and while discussing the sweet trade he was introduced to the "Monaco of South Africa" - the North Coast.
It was love at first sight. Once he saw the potential and the scale of his involvement there was no stopping Wim, he returned to Belgium and announced to his family and friends that he was moving Southway down South to the far off, bottom edge of Africa.
With him, Wim brought investors, people he knew would benefit from this once in a lifetime development opportunity.
Royal Palm Estates took its first breath and things were going really well. Wim's natural forceful nature allowed him to negotiate and conclude deals with local authority and government officials - it was miraculous to see how this Belgian 'Giant' could sway the towers of power in his favour.
And then came the Big Bang of 2008. Locally it meant that banks clamped down on credit, which meant that buying property was just out of reach for people that were perfect candidates for Palm Lakes Estate living.
However this did not stop Belgian's youngest CEO ever, and with the support of his gorgeous wife Olivia, they made a formidable team that produced solutions to every problem they faced.
Now Wim can take a step back and enjoy his birthday while he surveys the incredible success that his development is today.
Wim has displayed a level of generosity that has allowed him to be taken advantage of but this never changed him. He continues to give open heartedly and to show the kind of spirit that breeds success.
Happy Birthday Wim Sak! May you continue to be blessed and live to celebrate many many more birthdays.
