2012 Mayoral Awards For Excellence

2012 Mayoral Awards For Excellence

Date: 2012-12-19
"When we launched the Mayoral Awards for Excellence in 2004, we had the honour to be addressed by the former Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba. Among other things the Honourable Gigaba said through the Mayoral Awards, 'This municipality is embracing the developmental agenda of our government, giving concrete effect to the concept of a people-centred and people-driven processes of change, a People's Contract at work for a better life! The central question for every municipal government system is the creation of caring and humane cities that belong to all of us who live in them, black and white.'" Said KwaDukuza Municipality Mayor Ricardo Mthembu.

"Today we have gathered at this ceremony to recognise the work of many outstanding people of KwaDukuza who, singularly and in various combinations, continue to impact positively in the lives of other fellow residents. Through their own deeds, they confirm the correctness of our government in believing in the determination and capacity of our people to resolve their own problems, knowing that their government will always be on their side with whatever resources it might bring. They also prove the correctness of all the themes that government announces at the beginning of each year, underpinned by the conviction that ours is a contract between the government and its people. These compatriots augment the slogan "Phambili Mavolontiya" because it is through self-activism and volunteerism that we shall make true the statement "WORKING TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE".

"As we are already into the festive season, I urge our road users to be considerate. We must all respect life and avoid unnecessary deaths on our roads. We must deal decisively with the demon of abuse of women, the frail and children. Let us enjoy responsibly so that we do not visit unnecessary distress to other fellow human beings."
