Foodie: No Bake Christmas! Because who needs to know
Foodie: No Bake Christmas! Because who needs to know

Baking is a true art and it takes knowledge and patience and lots of sad mishaps that land up in the dog's bowl. Baking is also very time consuming - and that is my only regret - as a 'multi-tasker' I am always doing sixteen hundred other things and somehow get so easily detracted - so needless to say I suck at baking.
When I discovered Chateau Gateaux's splendid cake selection, I decided to try one out to see if I could have a bake free Christmas, an innocent kind of 'cheat'. Who needs to know
Being somewhat deprived of artistic talent, I invited my friend Maryn to help me decorate my Christmas cake, which I plan to serve to my family this Christmas. Well not this same one because we ate this one already but another onestraight out of my freezer.
Maryn and I did not do a lot of planning. I found some sugar Christmas hollies, snowflakes and red roses, some fresh berries and red candles. Maryn brought the whipped cream gun, and we just let our imaginations run away with us. It was so much fun and yes we did over do it (I blame it on those blood orange Italian Spritzers).
No one was there to judge and we loved every minute of it and you can let your imagination run away with you or you can just serve it as it is. Your friends and family will not even need to know that you did not bake it! It could be our secret.
Chateau Gateaux's sweet creations can be stored in a frozen state for up to 12 months. Once defrosted, they cannot be refrozen, however they can be kept in the refrigerator and consumed within 3 days.
So all you will have to do is defrost the cake in the refrigerator overnight or defrost at room temperature, uncovered for approximately 90 minutes, or you can cut slices from a whole frozen gateau as and when you need them, then defrost uncovered at room temperature for approximately 20 minutes. Immediately return the rest of the gâteau to the freezer in its original packaging. Whether frozen or not, always cut gâteau with a long, sharp knife, dipping the knife in very hot water between each cut.
So just to make your Christmas special, I have asked Chateau Gateaux to share with my readers. The first three readers to email me will receive a 20cm base cake. All you have to do is tell me which is your favourite Chateau Gateaux cake and why. My email address is thebugle@mweb.co.za
