Local lass is a Power House!

Local lass is a Power House!

Date: 2017-10-19

Weighing in at 66Kg, Sleeman lifted a total of 417.5 Kg in three divisions of the competition, Dead lift - 180Kgs, Squats 157.5kgs and Bench 80kgs and was placed 2nd in the world, after Hungary.

Sleeman, an animal behavourist at uShaka Sea World for the past 15 years, started body building 12 years ago and only moved over to the sport of Power lifting in July last year. Her years training as a body builder stood her in good stead as she moved over to power lifting.

"Power lifting is as much a mental sport as it is physical and it has helped me tremendously in my ability to care for and look after our animals. It has taught me to focus, be determined and persevere and I therefore do not give up easily if I believe something can be achieved," said Sleeman.

"One of the challenges I faced on occasion in preparing for the world championships was the strenuous training sessions after a long, 10 hour, physical day at work. As a foodie, and great lover of sticky treats, the most significant challenge I faced was not eating any unhealthy foods, and following a controlled healthy diet when leading up to the competition," she added.
