Volkswagen Just Keeps Giving

Volkswagen Just Keeps Giving

Author: Tomas Yoko
Date: 2018-04-20

When The Bugle was given the privilege to choose which charity would receive a cheque for sixteen thousand Rands, a very humbling experience began.

It was just a year ago when I saw a headline that read, "Volkswagen donates R2.3 million to local charity organisations." Now I was faced with the choice of the most deserving of this blessing. I had a mini dilemma for about three seconds and knew then and there that it had to go to children, particularly orphaned children. And the search began.

There are so many deserving charities out there, so much suffering and so much need.

In my searches I came across the St Thomas Children's Home in Sparks. This is a residential children's home to 60 orphaned or abandoned children from the ages of 2 to 10.

It was heart wrenching, I was choking back the tears, these little lives, just starting out and facing such adversity.

As life would have it, the Manager's name is Marie Therese Naidoo, a qualified Social Worker. She demonstrated such compassion when she spoke of the dire circumstances the Children's Home faces. There is so much shortage, any donation of any kind will go a long way here. If you have nothing to give but your time, these little people will absorb all the love you can give. Their willing smiles and confident voices did not match their surroundings, laughter, even laughter.

Thank you Volkswagen South Africa, thank you Marie, and please give generously to the St Thomas Home at 5 Williamson Place, Sparks.
