Everest Has Evolved

Everest Has Evolved

Author: Tomas Yoko

Building on the mountain of success that Ford has enjoyed with the success of the Ranger, the new Everest brings its own brand of excellence to the SUV market.

From the start of the road test, the quality of the plush seven seater interior set the tone for the rest of this awesome new vehicle from Ford.

The six-speed automatic transmission seemed to be telepathic with its perfectly timed gear changes, so smooth you can hardly feel them. This responsive gearbox is driven by the 3.2-litre five-cylinder Duratorq TDCi turbodiesel engine, that recirculates the exhaust to achieve the amazing consumption figures the Everest is capable of. With an output of 147 kilowatts and 470 Newton meters of torque, the Everest is the perfect towing vehicle and on the highway at 120 kilometers per hour the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Roll Stability Control made the ride as smooth as a train.

There are a host of driver assist tech systems on board the new Everest, placing the latest SUV offering from Ford in the top end of the market.

Seven airbags head the list that includes Active Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto High Beam Control, Blind Spot Monitoring with Cross Traffic Alert, Tyre Pressure Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist.

And the added value just kept climbing, the more I drove the Everest the more I was amazed by how much car Ford has crammed into this model. A rebuild from the ground up, the new Everest is a total rebuild from the previous model.

The 4x4 capabilities are controlled by Fords advanced new Terrain Management System, with the twist of the control you can select Normal, Snow, Gravel, Grass, Sand and Rock.

I took the Everest into some really soft sand and was anticipating having to get out and deflate the tyres, well the Everest just kept gliding through the soft sand with impressive ease.
