What The Issue?

What The Issue?

Date: 2014-09-12
Oh hell, what a burden it is having a young democracy such as ours, so painful to have to tend to the growing pains. Having to resort to dirty tactics just to steal a few billion Rands. It should be much easier than this.

Deputy Minister of Defence Kebby Maphatsoe opened his mouth and out came a most astonishing accusation, if shrouded in a thin veil of implication. It must be because Thuli Madonsela did her job that he almost blatantly called her a CIA spy, asking who her handler might be. The public protector's office is a crucial element of the democratic system, something Kebby seems to be willing to sacrifice to allow the sacking of the nation's coffers. Pay no heed to the starving mass of people who put him in power. They are like the cannon fodder of a war campaign. So long as the boss can help himself to the cash, Thuli, by his account, should just turn a blind eye to the raping of the national treasury (pun intended), and then the personal attack on her and her office would not be required. Really?

Besides the fact that the US is not amused by these allegations, I sincerely hope that Thuli does not take this defamation lying down, rather I would hope that she uses this as an opportunity to make an example of Kebby for other politicians, so that they think before they open their mouths and help them to understand that the responsibility of their position of power is no small affair.

Then at a time when Thuli needs support more than ever before the CEO and CFO of the Public Protectors Office both resigned.

At least all our countries leaders have not forsaken us. I was witness to the Reed Dance ceremony, a rich Zulu tradition, and the King spoke with such dignity and compassion to his people. There was no shred of indignant superiority in the way he inspired and encouraged his people. The composure of the King was inspirational, his heartfelt message a beacon of light in the darkness of our country's seriously lacking sea of governance.

All this talk of Kings gets me thinking of how close the United Kingdom is to becoming disunited. The threat of Scottish independence has become so very real, so very suddenly that if there was King of England I am sure he would have had someone's head on a plate by now. Thank goodness the Queen is civilised.

So while America and the Ukraine play battle ship-battle ship in the Black Sea and the world's superpowers are all spoiling for a fight, the Ebola virus is going viral all over West Africa. When they are finished battling it out I just hope that there is something left of this world worth saving.

Good news is that our parliament is going to relook at legalising dagga for the treatment of cancer, making Mario Ambrosini's life and death a little more meaningful. God gave us the most versatile plant in hemp and all we do is make it illegal and ignore its incredible properties as a source of food, oil, textiles, medicine and so much more.
