Imbumba Fiesta

Imbumba Fiesta

Date: 2018-02-02

The musical line-up has been announced for the afternoon concert, which is part of the first day-long Imbumba Fiesta taking place in Glenwood's Bulwer Park on Saturday 3 February.

Imbumba Fiesta comprises a free summer themed market, food stalls, info stands, an open mic from 9am until 2pm, and a ticketed sun-downer concert from 3pm until 7pm - all with an underlying message of encouraging good neighbourliness, supporting underprivileged children and showcasing local artists and crafters.

The afternoon music line up boasts an eclectic mix of Durban musicians including Scelo Gowane: Afro-soul and R&B artist, a self-taught producer, guitarist and composer; Sosha whose music crosses the boundaries of kwaito / hip-hop / rap / dance and electronic; Thee Legacy: a distinctly South African contemporary isicathamyaacappella group who rose to stardom as a result of winning the inaugural Sing Off South Africa 2015a cappella music competition; singer, songwriter and performer Holly Wasserfall who has carved out a place for herself in the country's flourishing Afro-house music scene becoming a fixture at major live events; hip-hop / rap / kwaito star, Bullistic; Nina Mkhize: a jazz trained vocalist and composer and two-time winner of the Old Mutual Jazz Encounters Awards from Durban whose repertoire includes original jazz and African music compositions and renditions ofartsongsstandards; Sandile D.V. Sithole AKA J Sabali - local Skandihop / hip-hop artist, and The Name on the Drum: local alternative / indie rockoutfit.

Imbumba is an isiZulu language name that means "United together in one harmony". It is hoped the Imbumba Fiesta will become an annual community event: "Our vision is to create a cohesive summer celebration to promote local businesses and in so doing help the helpless and give to the needy. Our vision is to paint the city with laughter and smiles of the children and to unearth and promote local talents in music and arts through an open mic platform," says project manager, Sandile Sithole from Brithm Productions.
