Date: 2018-04-06

During the visit today, residents raised concerns about the lack of housing in the area, the need to improve roads infrastructure in the area.

"The communities have also raised a shocking issue of substance abuse, and the prevalence of a drug called whoonga. The communities also reported to us that this drug has caused an increase in crime incidents which include the theft of ARV drugs from patients returning from clinics because the users of this drug use ARVs in the concoction," said Mchunu.

Residents also complained of a high proliferation of taverns that operate on a 24 hour basis and have been identified as being the source of many criminal activities.

"We've also been informed there is a high rate of unemployment as well as other issues that are a source of concern for residents.

"As the provincial government, we are here to take in all these concerns and ensure that all relevant arms of government are activated so as to find quick and lasting resolutions to these issues," said Mchunu
