The Botanical Society of South Africa KZN Coastal Branch

The Botanical Society of South Africa KZN Coastal Branch

Date: 2018-07-13

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

On Sunday, 22 July at 14:00 guest speaker Kevin McCann the NGO, Conservation Outcomes, will speak on how can we make Protected Areas relevant

One of the urgent challenges in South Africa is the need to address social disparities. Economic growth is seen as a way to do this but it is taking place with little to no regard for the environmental impacts. The development of new protected areas is a key intervention in addressing biodiversity loss, yet we need to ensure that these protected areas remain relevant within this economically-driven landscape. South Africa's botanical resources are immense and we have a responsibility to ensure their continued security, for their value for biodiversity and human wellbeing. These botanical resources play a key role in ensuring people understand the value of the environment and the need to continually invest in the development of new protected areas.

All welcome! Entrance including teas and snacks afterwards free for BotSoc members and students with cards. R40 for non-members. RSVP for catering purposes by 16 July: email: botsoc-kzn@mweb.co.za / Tel: 031 - 201 5111/ cell: 071 869 3693.
